Commercial Finance & Business Growth

Restructuring a manufacturer's finance to support its next phase of growth

  1. 01

    The Situation

An established local manufacturing business was preparing for its next phase of growth, with plans to invest in new CNC machinery, expand its sales fleet and increase international import and export activity.

The business also held existing commercial property finance alongside its operational funding arrangements. As its requirements evolved, there was an opportunity to review the broader finance structure and better align its facilities with future objectives.

  2. 02

    The Challenge

The business's requirements extended beyond a single equipment purchase or refinancing transaction.

New manufacturing machinery, additional vehicles and international trade activity all required access to capital, while existing commercial property debt presented an opportunity to reconsider the overall lending arrangements.

The challenge was to coordinate these funding requirements without placing unnecessary pressure on working capital or restricting the business's ability to pursue new opportunities.

With capital expenditure, supplier payments, inventory movements and customer receipts occurring at different stages of the operating cycle, the business needed a coordinated approach to financing.

    Beacon's Approach

Beacon reviewed the business's existing lending arrangements, commercial property debt, equipment requirements and working capital cycle.

Rather than treating each funding requirement as a separate transaction, Beacon developed a coordinated strategy designed to align finance with operational needs and longer-term growth plans.

This included reviewing opportunities to restructure existing commercial property debt, considering dedicated asset finance for CNC machinery and the sales fleet, and assessing trade finance facilities to support international imports, exports and payment cycles.

Particular attention was given to how the different facilities interacted, including the timing of capital expenditure, supplier payments, inventory purchases and customer receipts.

The objective was to improve cash flow efficiency, reduce pressure on operating funds and establish a more sustainable framework for future expansion.

  4. 04

    The Outcome

A coordinated refinancing and funding strategy was developed to support the manufacturer's next phase of growth.

The strategy brought together commercial property refinancing, manufacturing equipment finance, vehicle funding and international trade finance within a broader assessment of the business's requirements.

By considering debt structure, capital investment and working capital together, the resulting framework provided a clearer pathway for investing in production capacity, supporting the sales team and managing international trade requirements.
